About us

March Hare Theatre have one core aim. To make theatre training accessible. This is because we strongly believe that all children, no matter their background, age, ability or experience can benefit massively from an education in theatre. We focus on inspiring imagination, stimulating creativity and building confidence.

Theatre training teaches a whole host of highly transferable skills that can help in so many aspects of life.

Skills such as:

• Empathy and open mindedness - When we play different characters, we have to think deeply about another person's (or sometimes not a person!) point of view. Our training also encourages the children to work, learn and play with different types of people that they may not usually meet.
Teamwork and communication - We work in an ensemble to support one another in creating together. We practice different ways of communicating, and how to share ideas to have your voice heard, whilst actively listening and building on each others ideas.
Self-belief and confidence - Being on stage and taking part in workshops allows the children to celebrate their uniqueness. We showcase many different abilities, and help them in achieving something new. The children are shown the power of their own voice and ideas.
Imagination and creativity - We encourage all ideas, big and small, in an environment that is fun and safe for trying new things. We work collaboratively, children and adults together, to create work that we can all be proud of.
Problem solving skills - Drama training is unlike anything else, using a huge variety of techniques to challenge the children. They use creative, out-of-the-box thinking, coming up with ideas fast and working around problems when they arise.

Our Story

March Hare Theatre are a mother and daughter team, both with a lifelong love of theatre. We passionately believe that every child has a right to access the arts, in whatever form they choose.

Unfortunately, access to creative fields is disappearing, with funding being cut everywhere you look. Times are hard for everyone, but one of the sectors to suffer the most has always been the theatre.

Having been lucky enough to have many years education in drama, Hannah knew the power that theatre training holds, and how valuable it is. This is why March Hare Theatre was created. To do our bit in bringing this magical art form to children.

Hannah

Hi! I run the workshops and directs the shows. I was privileged enough to see a lot of theatre growing up, and now I have a daughter who loves it too. I am trained in drama, including acting and directing. I have seen that children are cleverer, funnier and so much wiser than we often give them credit for, and they have taught me as much, if not more than I have taught them.

Children have a special kind of creativity and imagination that adults are hardly ever able to access, and I believe nurturing that is essential. I have had the privilege of watching the moment when a child realises the power that their voice holds, or have an amazing idea, or help to encourage someone who's struggling to do their best, or finally break through on the thing they've been trying for weeks, or contribute to something they are so proud of. These moments are why bringing drama training to children is the most magical thing in the world, and I am honored to be able to do this.

Hello, I do the more admin and 'behind the scenes' bits, although the children still insist I get involved in the odd workshop now and then! I have volunteered for over 20 years as a school governor because I wanted to do what I could to help children achieve everything they were able to. Although most of my working life has been in admin I have always loved theatre and encouraged both my children to get as involved as possible and in fact, both are now hugely talented actors. Hannah has a special gift for inspiring young people and it's a privilege to watch her working with them.
